Pregnant? Postpartum? Just interested in birth?

An exciting new opportunity is here for you to connect with other Catholic mothers to talk about pregnancy, birth, postpartum, and other related topics.  Mystery Within Birth Services will be hosting a birth circle for Catholic mothers in Huntsville, on the second Wednesday of every month, where women can gather to pray and share their pregnancy, birth, and postpartum experiences. It will be a time for mothers to learn from and support one another through the delicate period of pregnancy and postpartum.

Why a Catholic Birth Circle?

I have been engaged in the world of pregnancy and birth for the last 25 years. What I have seen as a practicing Catholic is that it can be awkward, and sometimes downright difficult, to live out the Church’s vision of marriage and family in a culture which is hostile to our beliefs. Even when we have networked with other Catholic mothers, these delicate topics may not be always easy to broach. Catholic women end up turning with their questions and experiences to people or groups which may be hostile to their beliefs on the sanctity of life, openness to life, or redemptive suffering. It is my goal to see Catholic mothers have not only a safe space to talk about the issues and experiences which accompany childbearing, but to have the ability to connect with other mothers to offer mutual support from a Catholic perspective.

Who Can Come?

Anyone who fits the criteria above is welcome to join. While you do not have to be Catholic to attend, our prayer will be distinctively Catholic and our views on faith, marriage, family, and fertility will be guided by the Magisterium of the Catholic Church. Women are welcome from all parishes in the area. You do not have to be pregnant or postpartum. You simply ought to have a desire to support those who are, as this is the goal of our birth circles. Experienced mothers with a passion for birth are highly encouraged to come and share their wisdom!

Can children come?

Due to the delicate nature of the conversations and the fact that this time is for Moms to focus on themselves and each other, I ask that only babes in arms attend. Even if you aren’t breastfeeding, if you have a baby who is still primarily in your arms, your baby may come.

Is this birth circle only for “crunchy” moms, or women who are into natural birth, or home birth?

Absolutely not! This is a supportive space for women of any childbearing and baby-caring persuasion. Hospital, home, OB, midwife, medicated, unmedicated, induction, cesarean, breastfeeding, formula feeding, cloth diapering, plastic diapering, EC-ing....you get the idea!
